I hope you had time to relax and enjoy the holiday season. I know for some that's a tall order, whether because of family obligations, holiday travel, or the desire to fit a lot into a one- or two-week period. I used to be all about packing my holiday time with loads of activities as though making up for missing out during the year. But whether it's just the natural way of things, age, or post-pandemic hangover, I've definitely slowed my roll and given myself a mix of busy and chill this year, which actually makes it feel like I've been on vacay much longer than I have. As human beings we need downtime. But as business owners, giving ourselves permission to actually step away from our businesses can be tricky. This is the first year in almost a decade and half that I feel pretty successful in that endeavor. But, as a result, I'm finding it tough getting back in the swing of full steam ahead. Perhaps, that's because nobody's making me. Can you relate? I've got another advanced business class starting on Monday, however, so I know the clock is ticking and there's plenty of prep work to get done this week. And yet, everything is feeling like an epic battle and negotiation as I kick off my own back-in-office mandate. So, here's my strategy for gliding into the thick of things with renewed energy and motivation:
If, like me, you're struggling with reentry into business as usual this year, why not schedule a laser coaching session to help you gain clarity and motivation to kick off your best year yet?! Until next time, remember, even a small step forward is progress! P.S. If you missed it, before the break, I asked you What's the Good Word for 2025. Your success is our strategy! I help entrepreneurs leapfrog over the typical potholes that derail most small businesses with inspiration, motivation, education, and support across a wide range of business topics drawn from over a decade of running my own business, teaching entrepreneurship for the City of New York, and coaching and consulting privately with dozens of women and minority small business owners. Honestly, why go it alone when help is an email away?
Hi Reader, Most entrepreneurs don't think about insurance until, they need it, and by then it's too late. I sure didn't. It wasn't until a client asked me if I had it that it even entered my mind. Then, I had to quickly find a policy not really knowing what I was buying so I could confirm, "yeah, I'm covered." The truth is, there are a lot of different types of business insurance and what is right for you depends upon where you are, what you sell, how you sell it, and who you sell it to,...
Hi Reader, In New York City, spring is struggling to get a foothold with temps barely making it into the 50s, let alone the 60s for more than a day at a time. But the trees, daffodils, and tulips just don't care; they're blooming and it's lovely to see. It's also spring break week for City schools bookended by Passover and Easter and a week out from Eid. For some, this time of year is a reawakening, coming out from the hibernation tendencies of winter into a flurry of activity, spring...
Hi Reader, I consider myself a fairly savvy individual when it comes to most things impacting small business owners, but last week I was truly blown away by Jessica Robinson's guest session on cybersecurity for small business owners during one of my current classes. Jessica, CEO of Purepoint Int'l and a cybersecurity expert, is a graduate of the very first business development course I taught for New York City back in 2017, so it was such a joy to welcome her back to my classroom. And, what...
