What's the Good Word?

This is my last official 'newsletter' email for 2024 as I and, hopefully, you, too, get ready to enjoy the holidays.

This year, in particular, there's a lot to celebrate but also a lot to be wary of and unsettled by.

That's why I'm happy to share some wisdom from my friend and fellow business strategist Donna Gallagher of Kairos Edge. Donna combines business development with personal health and wellness strategies, all built upon a foundation of faith.

As Donna likes to say, "We are more than just our business."

Each year, Donna intuitively and prayerfully chooses a single word that becomes a cornerstone for the unknown yet to unfold in the new year.

While I am not a religious individual, I do have my own brand of spirituality and Donna's approach to anchoring the year ahead resonates with me, especially because, as a writer and avid reader, I know how powerful words and language truly are, and, there's also some science behind it.

“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want; and you cannot help but get that reality...This is not philosophy, this is physics.”
—Albert Einstein

Did you know positive words have a higher vibrational frequency than negative ones?

According to one vibration frequency chart, the emotion of 'peace' is 600 while that of 'guilt' and 'shame' are 30 and 20, respectively.

Additionally, Masaru Emoto, conducted an interesting experiment. He put water in different containers and taped one word on each. Some words were loving and affirming while others were negative and hateful. Then, he froze the water to form ice crystals.

Interestingly, the containers with positive words formed beautiful, well-defined crystals. The ones with negative words formed crystals that were misshapen, incomplete, and/or not aesthetically pleasing.

As Donna notes ,"Could it be the very foundational building block of all things is found within the spoken word? Could it be we have been given a tool for success, but have not understood it?"

It's certainly meaty food for thought as I have personally witnessed students and clients transformed by simply speaking aloud their visions, dreams, goals, and intentions.

So, this holiday season, why not take a break from all the busyness and try it for yourself:

  1. Meditate, pray, or do whatever works for you to focus inward.
  2. Ask, "What's my word for 2025?"
  3. Use what comes up to set goals and priorities for the year ahead.

And, if you'd like to connect with Donna and/or let her know your word of the year, get in touch at: Donna@DonnaGallagher.net.

Wishing you a very happy, healthy, peaceful, and safe holiday season!

P.S. Last week, I focused on Cause vs Effect when it comes to setting success measures.

Easily Said & Done

I help entrepreneurs leapfrog over the typical potholes that derail most small businesses with inspiration, motivation, education, and support across a wide range of business topics drawn from over a decade of running my own business, teaching entrepreneurship for the City of New York, and coaching and consulting privately with dozens of women and minority small business owners. Honestly, why go it alone when help is an email away?

Title: Cover You, Cover Me; Subtitle: With the insurance we need.

Hi Reader, Most entrepreneurs don't think about insurance until, they need it, and by then it's too late. I sure didn't. It wasn't until a client asked me if I had it that it even entered my mind. Then, I had to quickly find a policy not really knowing what I was buying so I could confirm, "yeah, I'm covered." The truth is, there are a lot of different types of business insurance and what is right for you depends upon where you are, what you sell, how you sell it, and who you sell it to,...

Title: Spring Break; Subtitle: Let nature be your guide.

Hi Reader, In New York City, spring is struggling to get a foothold with temps barely making it into the 50s, let alone the 60s for more than a day at a time. But the trees, daffodils, and tulips just don't care; they're blooming and it's lovely to see. It's also spring break week for City schools bookended by Passover and Easter and a week out from Eid. For some, this time of year is a reawakening, coming out from the hibernation tendencies of winter into a flurry of activity, spring...

Title: Are You Protected; Subtitle: From growing cyber threats?

Hi Reader, I consider myself a fairly savvy individual when it comes to most things impacting small business owners, but last week I was truly blown away by Jessica Robinson's guest session on cybersecurity for small business owners during one of my current classes. Jessica, CEO of Purepoint Int'l and a cybersecurity expert, is a graduate of the very first business development course I taught for New York City back in 2017, so it was such a joy to welcome her back to my classroom. And, what...
