This is my last official 'newsletter' email for 2024 as I and, hopefully, you, too, get ready to enjoy the holidays. This year, in particular, there's a lot to celebrate but also a lot to be wary of and unsettled by. That's why I'm happy to share some wisdom from my friend and fellow business strategist Donna Gallagher of Kairos Edge. Donna combines business development with personal health and wellness strategies, all built upon a foundation of faith. As Donna likes to say, "We are more than just our business." Each year, Donna intuitively and prayerfully chooses a single word that becomes a cornerstone for the unknown yet to unfold in the new year. While I am not a religious individual, I do have my own brand of spirituality and Donna's approach to anchoring the year ahead resonates with me, especially because, as a writer and avid reader, I know how powerful words and language truly are, and, there's also some science behind it.
“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want; and you cannot help but get that reality...This is not philosophy, this is physics.”
—Albert Einstein
Did you know positive words have a higher vibrational frequency than negative ones? According to one vibration frequency chart, the emotion of 'peace' is 600 while that of 'guilt' and 'shame' are 30 and 20, respectively. Additionally, Masaru Emoto, conducted an interesting experiment. He put water in different containers and taped one word on each. Some words were loving and affirming while others were negative and hateful. Then, he froze the water to form ice crystals. Interestingly, the containers with positive words formed beautiful, well-defined crystals. The ones with negative words formed crystals that were misshapen, incomplete, and/or not aesthetically pleasing. As Donna notes ,"Could it be the very foundational building block of all things is found within the spoken word? Could it be we have been given a tool for success, but have not understood it?" It's certainly meaty food for thought as I have personally witnessed students and clients transformed by simply speaking aloud their visions, dreams, goals, and intentions. So, this holiday season, why not take a break from all the busyness and try it for yourself:

I help entrepreneurs leapfrog over the typical potholes that derail most small businesses with inspiration, motivation, education, and support across a wide range of business topics drawn from over a decade of running my own business, teaching entrepreneurship for the City of New York, and coaching and consulting privately with dozens of women and minority small business owners. Honestly, why go it alone when help is an email away?
Hi Reader, Something I've been enjoying of late are multiple influencers showcasing the limits of ChatGPT and the like. One guy asks it some pretty basic questions, such as to name a number between one and one hundred that includes the letter 'a.' (Spoiler alert: there aren't any). ChatGPT lies to his face over and over again. Another one provides examples of business fails due to AI. Some are pretty extraordinary. But here's the thing, this isn't just a harmless gimmick, it's a warning cry,...
Have you seen the video of McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski trying to promote the new Big Arch burger ahead of its March 3rd launch? How about any of the many, many videos or memes negging on it for a host of reasons, including how Kempczinski refers to the burger as "a delicious product" or his failure to take a real bite of it, seeming almost disgusted by it. To me, there are three great marketing stories going on here. 1. Going Viral Isn't the Goal Yes, there is such a thing as bad PR and...
This fall my mom was diagnosed with mild-to-moderate dementia. While sad, it did not come as a surprise. It's one reason I sold her house and we moved in together late last summer. At first, I planned outings to the Y and other senior programs, scheduled visits from family and friends, coordinated physical therapy appointments, and designed little daily activities to keep her engaged and stimulated. This winter it's gotten harder and harder to get mom out of bed let alone dressed and out the...
