Time Keeps on Slippin'...

Ugh, time.

Is there ever enough to get everything done and have a life, too?

One of the biggest changes for me during this crazy lockdown year has been in the way I approach time in all kinds of ways, but especially as it relates to feelings of overwhelm, productivity, and accomplishment.

One small change I made to my to-do list last year really had a big impact on this front.

It's the lemonade from my lemon of a year :-).

Here's what I did.

Rather than keeping one long, running to-do list on my desk that grew longer each day no matter how many items I checked off, I now keep two lists.

  1. A short list of must-dos for each day, which stays on my desk. I get great satisfaction checking off the items as I get them done and I feel happy seeing my completed list each evening.
  2. A long list that's jam-packed with everything I want to do, which lives in my top desk drawer. On days when I fly through my must-do list, I pull an item or two off the long list and get to work.

Two things have happened by making this change:

  • The first and most important is that at the end of the day I feel happy! I've accomplished things and can clearly see what those things are.
  • The second is that I'm able to approach the items on my long list more strategically, with a better sense of what really needs to get done and what I can actually do in the time I have available.

How about you? How are you hacking your time, productivity, and/or sense of accomplishment to stay motivated and on track in 2021?

Need some help making the most of your time, energy and focus to serve your business?
Let's talk.

PS - If you missed it, last week I considered whether Easier Is Better.

Title: An Ounce of Prevention; subtitle: Can really save your bacon

Hi Reader, Last week we had the first tornado warning in Manhattan and the second in New York City that I can recall. There was horrible air quality from the Canadian wildfires as well as torrential rains with their accompanying flood warnings the week before. Right now, Spain and France are suffering devastating wildfires and heat waves. I've written before about disaster preparedness, but I really want to drive home the need to think about and plan for the potential impact of natural or...

Title: When AI Actually Works; Subtitle: It's a transformation tool

I promised I'd share some AI wins after bashing on it for the last couple of months, so here goes. An old client of mine runs a wine shop in Brooklyn. She's got some help but she's largely a one-woman show. She's been using Monday's AI features to help her analyze and manage her inventory and understand seasonal sales trends to purchase more smartly. She had to level up her investment and hire someone to help her set up the AI agents she needs but feels it's been money well-spent. Another one...

Title: When the Pope Speaks...; Subtitle: Are the right people listening?

There are lots of thoughts spinning around in my brain at any given moment. Maybe you can relate. We're kind of living in whirlwind times where information is coming at us incessantly; it's like being caught up in a tornado. There's just no way to catch your breath and really marinate on anything for too long. So here are a few things I'm trying to give a little bit more thought and attention to these days: What impact will Pope Leo's AI encyclical have on governments, tech leaders, and...
